Jeweller Gemmologist

I’ve loved jewellery for as long as I can remember, but it was only in 2015 that I began learning to make it myself. What started as a curiosity quickly became a calling – one that brought together my lifelong fascination with gemstones, my love of clean design and my desire to create meaningful, enduring pieces.

I trained with experienced jewellers here in Western Australia and qualified as a gemmologist, deepening my understanding of how light moves through stones and across metal. With a family history in jewellery, the move from the corporate world into the studio felt both natural and a little bit inevitable.

I grew up in South Carolina and completed a Bachelor of Science in Commerce at the College of Charleston before moving to London to work in international finance. There I met an Australian, and in 1994 we moved to Perth, where we raised our three gorgeous sons. Western Australia’s coastline, its shifting light and its geology now quietly underpin much of my work.

I’ve travelled to some of the world’s key mining regions in search of gemstones, which I use in my own work and supply to other jewellers as a wholesaler. Sourcing directly allows me to select stones for their character and optical qualities – the way they reflect, refract and hold light – not just their size or rarity.

My jewellery is defined by clean, contemporary lines and understated detail. I work primarily in sterling silver, yellow and white gold, pairing them with gemstones such as sapphires, emeralds, diamonds and amethyst, as well as sea-worn glass and other natural materials. Many pieces explore movement and light play – quiet “reflectors” that catch the eye without shouting.

Alongside my studio practice, I create exhibition work that pushes ideas of value and adornment further, often incorporating kinetic elements and found materials. These projects allow me to stretch boundaries, honour the materials I work with and stay curious – always looking for new ways for jewellery to sit on the body and live in the world.
